Tropical Cyclone Vaianu not expected to disrupt sailings

Updated 4:00 pm Thursday 9 April

Forecasts predict that Tropical Cyclone Vaianu will pass across the upper and central North Island and then move to the east of the country during Sunday. Strong winds in Cook Strait and at the ports are anticipated on Sunday night, although current forecasts do not indicate likely disruption to our sailings.

Due to the nature of the storm, we will continue to monitor forecasts closely and provide updates if the situation changes.

Bluebridge fare update due to fuel costs

Updated 1:00pm Thursday 9 April

The ongoing situation in the Middle East continues to drive fuel prices higher. Like all transport operators, Bluebridge has experienced a significant and rapid increase in fuel costs.

While we’ve worked hard to absorb these increases, fuel prices have reached a point where we need to adjust our fares to help offset a portion of the additional cost.

Our priority is to keep New Zealand connected with a safe, reliable and affordable Cook Strait service. We recognise the global situation is affecting everyone and we appreciate our customers’ understanding. We hope these conditions are temporary and will continue to review fares regularly in line with changes to fuel prices.

Please note: the new fare levels apply to new bookings, or to amended bookings made after the change on Thursday 9 April 2026.

Plan your trip - check for roadworks

Please plan ahead and allow plenty of time to get to your Bluebridge ferry before your final check-in time. Keep in mind that roadworks are happening across the country which may add time to your journey.
